By the end of 2007, the total population of Hubei Province is 6.07 million, among which 5.69 million is permanent population. In 2007, the number of birth reached 5557,000 with the birth rate of 9.19‰, the registered number of death was 361,000 with the death rate of 5.96‰, and the natural growth rate was 3.23‰.
In 2007, the Hubei people’s income increased continuously. The urban per capita disposable income was 11,485 RMB yuan, increased by 4,696 RMB yuan over the year of 2002 with an annual increase of 11.1%; the rural per capita income was 3,997 RMB yuan, increased by 1,553 RMB yuan with an annual increase of 10.3%.
Social security has been further strengthened. By the end of 2007, there were 8.87 million people covered by old-age insurance, 0.365 million more than the previous year. There were 4.06 million people covered by unemployment insurance, 6.45 million people covered by medical insurance. All the pensions were released in full and in time. 170,000 laid-offs have got unemployment relief. There were 1.43 million urban residents and 1.25 million rural residents enjoying the governmental minimum living allowance. There were another 1.08 million in rural areas enjoying regular assistance from the government.
The social welfare has developed continuously. There were 197,000 welfare adoption beds, adopting 177,000 persons adopted. There were 3.05 billion sales in the social welfare lotteries in the year.
