HUBEI IN BRIEF
The Yangtze River valley is one of the originating places of the Chinese civilization. Hubei is the birthplace of Shennong, the Emperor Yan, one of the ancestors of the Chinese nation. Hubei is well-known for its splendid Chu Culture.

Han Opera and Chu Opera are the traditional local operas of Hubei. With the history of over 300 years, Han Opera has various roles for emotional expression. Chu Opera has simple language and rustic style. Wuhan Acrobatic Troupe is world-famous.
Hubei is famous for both natural scenic spots and historic cultural relics, including the world-famous Three Gorges, the Taoist Sanctuary-Wudang Mountain with 72 peaks and 24 springs, the Shennongjia Forest Region known as “Summit of Central China” and “Green Treasure House” for its unique original forest eco-system in the middle-latitude, its forest coverage of 88.9%, its beautiful scenery and the legend of Living Wild Men. The attractive places of Hubei have great historical value. We have Changyang paleoanthropic ruin, Qujialing cultural archaeological site, Three Kingdom Period relics, and Jinan ancient city- the historical remains of the former capital of ancient Chu State. In modern times, there are the Uprising Gate and Yuemachang—the historical sites of the Democratic Revolution of 1911, the Former Site of the CPC Peasant Movement Institute, and the site of the famous CPC August 7 Conference. Hong’an county is known as the "County of Generals". 140,000 people from Hong’an have devoted their lives to the Chinese Revolutionary War. The two former national Chairmen, Mr. Dong Biwu and Mr. Li Xiannian and over 220 Chinese army generals were born in Hong’an.
