Overview

Craiova, a city in southwestern Romania, is the capital of Dolge County and one of the largest and most important cities in Romania. It is located on the Romanian Great plain, left of the Riu River, a tributary of the Danube. The former Roman settlement has a population of 303,000. It is 227 km from the capital Bucharest and 75 km from the European port of Danube.

Relations with Shiyan

On September 30, 1996, Wu Fayu, Mayor of Shiyan City, led a delegation to visit Craiova. During the meeting, the two sides initialed theSister City Agreementand theLetter of Intent for Economic and Technological Cooperation.

On December 1, 1996, Deputy Mayor of Craiova Podaianu led a delegation to Shiyan. The two sides revised theLetter of Intent on Economic and Technological Cooperationand signed agreements regarding Chinese restaurants, proxy sales of towels and medical resources.

On August 22, 1998, a delegation of 12 teachers and students of Shiyan Yinghua School visited Electroputere Senior High School in Craiova. The two schools signed an agreement on personnel exchange and educational cooperation.

On July 18, 1999, Gongga Ferary, Director of Electroputere High School, led a cultural delegation of 12 to Shiyan City.

On December 23, 1999, He Rufang, vice mayor of Shiyan City, and Vasily Brucha, Mayor of Craiova, concluded theSister City Agreementin Craiova.

On August 8, 2000, Mayor Brucha led a delegation to Shiyan City and held talks with Mayor Ma Ronghua of Shiyan City. They signed six agreements and letters of intent, including an agreement on opening a Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic in Craiova by Shiyan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
