2022 China (Hubei)-ROK Friendship Week was successfully held in Wuhan from November 17th to 19th to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the China-ROK Cultural Exchange Year. The event was co-hosted by the Hubei Provincial People’s Government and the Consulate-General of Republic of Korea in Wuhan.

Chung Jae-ho, Ambassador of the ROK to China, and Xing Haiming, Chinese Ambassador to the ROK, delivered video speeches at the opening ceremony. Zhao Haishan, Vice Governor of Hubei Provincial People’s Government, and Kang Seung-seok, the Consul-General of the Republic of Korea in Wuhan attended and addressed the event.

Zhao noted Hubei and the ROK enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges and boast fruitful cooperation. Taking the 30th anniversary of China-ROK diplomatic relations as a new starting point, Hubei and the ROK need to promote collaboration in optical-electronic information, transportation and logistics, environmental protection, cultural tourism, youth exchanges, etc.

Xing spoke highly of the impressive achievements in Hubei-ROK cooperation. He proposed that both sides should strive for fruitful outcomes in more fields by taking this event as an opportunity.

Chung Jae-ho said that Hubei, as a leading province in central China, will continue to play an important role in developing the China-ROK relations. Chung Jae-ho advocated ROK-Hubei cooperation in biotechnology, green energy, and optical communications. In addition, he encouraged people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.

Kang Seung-seok said that there is unlimited potential for cooperation between Hubei and the ROK. He added, this event would serve as a platform to promote economic, educational, and cultural collaboration between the two sides.

During the Friendship Week, the Hubei-ROK Friendship and Cooperation Forum was held, at which Honghu and Chaeseokgang officially established their sister-city relations, the ninth pair of sister-cities between Hubei Province and the ROK. Other sideline events include subforums on education and tourism, Hubei and ROK Commodity Exhibition, a K-POP competition, and a youth Go competition.
